Cleaning the filter on an Electrolux extractor hob

Keep the filters clean on your Electrolux extractor hob for optimal performance. When built-up grease is visible, it’s time to clean the filters. Usually, this will be after cooking for around 20-30 hours. If you cook with larger amounts of fats and oils, the filter needs more frequent cleaning.

The filters also need to be regenerated after cooking for around 100-140 hours, depending on the filter type. Thanks to a built-in counter, you will get a reminder on your extractor hob when it’s time to do this.

Depending on your model and installation type, you may have one of the following setups:

1. Grease filter.

2. A grease filter and carbon filter as two separate units.

3. 2-in-1 filter including both a grease filter and a carbon filter in one unit.

How to clean the grease filter

1. Make sure the extractor hob is turned off.

2. Carefully remove the grid and lift out the grease filter housing.

3. Hand rinse the filter housing with water or mild dish detergent wash or wash it in the dishwasher without using any detergent.

4. When fully dried, place the filter cage back in the extractor hob. Do not use paper towels to dry the filter.

5. Place the grid back on top of the housing.

How to clean and regenerate the carbon filter

1. Make sure the extractor hob is turned off.

2. Carefully remove the grid and lift out the filter cage.

3. Remove the two carbon filters inside the cavity.

4. Clean the filters either by hand or in the dishwasher:

  • Clean by hand: Hand rinse the filters with warm water without detergent. Use a soft sponge, a soft cloth, or a non-abrasive cleaning brush to remove any food remains.
  • Clean in the dishwasher: Wash at recommended 65-70°C temperature, using a programme longer than 90 min. Don’t use any
detergent, and make sure to wash the filters without any dishes in the same load.

5. Air dry the filters or use the oven if you are regenerating them:

  • Air dry after basic cleaning: Leave the filters to dry overnight at room temperature.
  • Dry in a heated oven to regenerate: If the reminder symbol  is visible, it’s time to regenerate the filters. Dry the filters in the oven for 120 minutes at 100°C without the fan running. Press  to turn off the reminder and re-set the counter.

Note: The filters can be regenerated up to eight times before they need to be replaced.

6. Place the filters back in the cage when they have fully dried. The fabric handle should be visible from above.

7. Place the housing in the extractor hob and the grid back on top of the housing.
